Faith, Family & Education: A New Approach to Learning with 10:10 Academy

The power of community is near and dear to the mission of WeShare by UHSM, and one of the many reasons we work hard to make our community a thriving and supportive place. We invited Lisa Schron, a member of the leadership team at 10:10 Academy to talk about the impact of faith, family, and education on our wellbeing on the WeShare podcast. 10:10 Academy offers academic and elective classes for students from kindergarten through high school, and is a place where families can purposefully grow together.

BM: How do you and your team integrate biblical values into both academics and the overall culture of 10:10?

LS: What we’re really wanting to focus on is lasting, gospel-focused impressions with our kids. And with being a source of biblical accountability and Scriptural reinforcement for our families…and so having that extra support for parents is great. But we also want to take it deeper. We’re trying to have gospel-focused conversations with our kids so that they can start to analyze and connect with things that could be affecting them long term, so that as they age and they go out into the world their worldview is a little bit firmer than maybe it would have been if we weren’t having those conversations.

BM: We’ve seen such a shift in education, with more families choosing homeschooling, why do you think this movement is growing so quickly?

LS: I think one reason is that parents are kind of disenfranchised with some of the things going on in the public school system. It’s no longer reflecting Christian, biblical, Scriptural values. And so I think it’s making parents pause. And I don’t believe that homeschooling is the only option, the only way to raise and educate your children. I think that’s a question each family has to look at for themselves. I think parental involvement is the key…I think with awareness comes access. Knowing you have things like social media that are connecting people now, empowering them to think that they might be able to take this on… it’s more tangible. And so I think awareness creates empowerment.

Lisa has a wealth of knowledge that we can all learn from, and we’re so thankful she shared her education experience with us. Jump into this conversation anywhere you listen to podcasts or visit weshare.org/podcast to listen or view now!
